Descendants of Johann Nicholas Blanckenbühler

Generation No. 1

1. JOHANN NICHOLAS3 BLANCKENBÜHLER (JOHANN THOMAS2, MATTHIAS1) was born 02 Jan 1681/82 in Neuenbürg, Germany, and died Abt. 1743 in Culpeper County, Virginia. He married MARIA APPOLONIA KÄFFER 06 May 1714 in Neuenburg, Baden, Germany, daughter of WOLFGANG KÄFFER and ELISABETHA ???. She was born Abt. 1690 in Ansbach region of Mittelfranken, Germany.

Notes for JOHANN NICHOLAS BLANCKENBÜHLER: John Nicholas Blankenbaker was one of the German immigrants that came to Germanna Colony in 1717, in Culpeper County, Virginia.

From "Germanna History", Notes:

Johann Nicholas Blanckenbühler married Apollonia Käffer in Neuenbürg on 6 May 1714. Two children were born in Neuenbürg:

Maria Barbara Blanckenbühler, b. 22 Dec 1714, d. the next day Zacharias Blanckenbühler, b. 21 Oct 1715

Children of JOHANN BLANCKENBÜHLER and MARIA KÄFFER are:

  • i. MARIA BARBARA4 BLANCKENBÜHLER, b. 22 Dec 1714; d. 23 Dec 1714.
  • ii. ZACHARIAS BLANKENBAKER, b. 21 Oct 1715, Germany; d. Abt. 1792; m. ALCY ???, 1749, Culpeper County, Virginia; b. WFT Est. 1710-1716.

Notes for ZACHARIAS BLANKENBAKER: From "Germanna History", notes:

When the family of Zacharias Blankenbaker was listed in the Baptismal Register down at the church, his two step daughters were not given. These girls interacted with Zacharias' children at the baptisms of all of the children of Alcy. In this regard it is impossible to tell there was any difference in their parentage.

Alcy's two daughters, POSSIBLY surnamed Finks, were Elizabeth, who married Peter Broyles, and Mary Magdalena, who married Henry Wayman.

Incidentally, Zacharias was born in 1715, in Germany, and if he was not married until about 1749, then he was 34 years old. For this reason, I have wondered if there were an earlier marriage, but there is no evidence of children. Then, again, the Blankenbaker men were shy and may it have taken him that long to learn how to speak to a woman. (11 Jul 02)

From: <PilgrimD@aol.com> Subject: re: John Wilhoit and Nancy Smith Date: Mon, 29 Sep 1997 08:33:56 -0400 (EDT)

My research is still at the stage of finding direction from collecting research already done and trying to sort it out, in regard to this part of the family. Here is what I have found.

There are conflicting ideas as to the name of Nancy, Margaret or whoever this woman was. Most agree she was a Smith but I have found noone yet with an idea as to how she may connect to the Smiths across the way in Madison, or if she was even part of that family.

The information that I have found seems to agree with your cousin regarding Aaron and Mary Yeager and Matilda being their child (youngest - born 1810).

As for John's second wife, Elizabeth Blankenbaker, she seems to be daughter of Michael Blankenbaker (b 1726 in Madison), grandson of Hans Nicholas (immigrant); and Elizabeth Barbara Gaar (b 2/11/1729or30). I am not sure how she is related to your John David Blankenbaker. She is a first cousin once removed from Sarah Blankenbaker who married Joseph Thornton Wilhoit. They are my ancestors. JT was Matildas much older brother.

If anyone else out there has any different or additional information on this please feel free.
