  2. Source:Allred, Marilyn. Town of Warwick, Franklin County, Massachusetts, Genealogical Records 1739-1900, Births, Marriages,, p. 142, misidentifies the husband as this man, but Allred's choice would have been only 14 at the time of marriage. Given that the son of James and Milly, Ansel, is supposed to have moved to New York, and the age of their son John, it seems the husband is probably the James Holmes found in Chenango County, NY, in the 1850 census, b. in Massachusetts about 1772. He has not been identified yet.

One birth of James Holmes about 1772 in Massachusetts is known of. Stoughton Records, p. 109 gives the birth of son James in 1772 to "John Holmes ye 3'd and Elizabeth". The history of the Holmes in Stoughton that is given in Source:Gray, George Arthur. Descendants of George Holmes of Roxbury, 1594-1908 (online here) does not mention him (once explored on this page in detail, but removed as probably irrelevant since it does not seem to be this James Holmes, see old versions of this page if interested).
