'James Hill ([son of] John) had wife Sarah ------------, whose surname is not given by Dr. Steiner. Dr. Talcott's MS, on the Griswold family states that Sarah, daughter of Michael Griswold of Wethersfield, born Sept. 30, 1662, married ------- Hill. There seems to be no other male member of the Guilford family of Hill having a wife Sarah, at a sufficiently early date, except him. The will, dated in 1678, of Michael Griswold, of Wethersfield, who died in 1684, refers to his daughter Sarah Hill.'

Michael Griswold's will dated 10 Sep 1678 gives a bequest to "my daughter Sarah Hill".

If this was the wording of the original will, it would imply that Sarah had married by Sep 1678, before turning 16. However, the first known child of James and Sarah Hill was born Aug 1683, suggesting a later marriage date, and it is possible that Sarah's name was changed in the will when (or before) Michael wrote a codicil dated 22 Sep 1684.
