James and Lucinda had three children: Nancy Jane (1848-1852, buried in God's Knob), Elizabeth Anne (1850-1890, married Eli Brill), and William Henry (1851-ca. 1884, married Sarah Catherine Reed). After the untimely death of his wife and eldest daughter, James stayed on with his two surviving children through 1852, but left for the gold fields of California, arriving there in the Summer of 1853. In June 1858, his father, Enoch Galloway, Sr., was appointed as guardian of his surviving children by his first wife, William and Elizabeth. Upon his death, $85.00 of his personal property (still in Jasper Co., IL) was divided among the two sons of James' only son William, who preceded him in death.
