As he already had three and possibly four children in 1643, he and his wife Elizabeth, who was a daughter of Robert Andrews of Ipswich or of Andrews' wife Elizabeth by a previous marriage, may have been married in England about 1637 and followed the Andrews family to Ipswich in 1639.
