  3.   Source:Bond, Henry. Family Memorials. Genealogies of the Families and Descendants of the Early Settlers of Watertown, Massachusetts, Including Waltham and Weston (1855) says that the parentage of Mary Sherman who m. Henry Freeman is not ascertained (p. 430). He also says that Mary, d/o Rev. John Sherman married Daniel Allen bef. 1659 when their first child was born (p. 4). Rev. John Sherman had two daughters named Mary, one by each wife. The older one was named "Mary Allen" in his will of 1683. So the above information leads to Bond's conclusion about the parentage of Henry Freeman's wife. However, Source:NEHGR, p. 54:396, "Lewis Allen of Watertown Farms and His Descendants" cites a deed by Henry Freeman originally dated 1665, was confirmed in 1677 by "Mary Freeman alias Allin, with ye consent of Lewis Allen my husband". This means the widow of Henry Freeman would have been named Mary Allen in 1683. However, Mary Allen is a common name, and Rev. John's daughter being named Mary Allen is not proof of whom she married. But additionally, Daniel Allen's wife Mary is shown by a deed of gift to be Mary Wilder, d/o of Thomas Wilder and Hannah Eames (Source:Nourse, Henry Stedman. Early Records of Lancaster, Massachusetts, 1643-1725, p. 298). So Bonds is wrong on both counts. Source:American Genealogist (D.L. Jacobus), "The Family of Rev. John Sherman" by Donald Jacobus, p. 20:132, gives an estimated birth date of about 1639 for Mary, with no explanation. Given her marriage in 1656, perhaps this might be tweaked to about 1638, which would mean she was of legal age?
