George Mitchell was a student at Harvard and came from there to act as best man for his brother, Thomas. At the wedding he met and fell in love with Mary Elizabeth Lawrence, cousin and bridesmaid to the bride, Mary Ann Prince. When he finished his studies, he married her at the old Lawrence homestead. According to a note of Maude M. Strauch, their home was just outside the cemetery in Flushing and was taken down upon the construction of the trolley to Jamaica.
