m. 23 Apr 1871, Burnham, Buckinghamshire:
Henry son of Samuel Hutchings & Louisa daughter of Charles Ashley
Although Henry's father's name is given here as Samuel, it is considered this must be an error. There is no trace in the censuses before 1871 of a Henry (or George Henry) son of Samuel Hutchings from Crewkerne, nor is there a Henry son of Samuel Hutchings baptised at Crewkerne in the 1840s. The George Henry Hutchings son of Edmund and Mary baptised at Crewkerne in 1844 on the other hand was known as Henry (appearing thus when still living with his parents in the 1861 census) and otherwise disappears from the records after 1861. This Henry who married Louisa Ashley in 1871 was also a George Henry but known as Henry - he appears as Henry in the 1881 and 1901 censuses and on his railway employment records, but in the 1891 census as George H. Hutchings and his death was registered as George Henry. It therefore seems the only logical explanation is that the George Henry son of Edmund and Mary baptised in 1844 at Crewkerne was the same man who married Louisa Ashley in 1871, but that the wrong father's name was recorded on his marriage record.
