I am seeking information about George Goss. He was working as a cabinet maker in Baltimore, Fairfield County, Ohio in 1850. It is possible he may have been born in Pennsylvania about 1806. Any information will be appreciated.

Deward: I just posted an extensive reply to your follow-up of my earlier message. Now I have another thought, one that I'll also share with Julie Taylor, another George GOSS inquirer.

Looking again at my notes of the census of 1820, in the George GOSS h/hold that I mentioned in my other follow-up, there are only two males and two females. The males are in the 16-26 bracket and the 45+ bracket. The females are in the same brackets. Now to confuse you just a bit....

There are only two GOSS h/holds in the 1820 census, Jacob's & George's. I happen to know that Jacob's father, Jacob, Sr., was still alive in 1820, but he doesn't show up in a h/hold of his own. So, the more I study this , the more I think that the George GOSS h/hold consists of George GOSS and his wife, who are in the 16-26 bracket, and father (?) Jacob, Sr. and his wife, who are in the 45+ bracket. That would make it entirely possible, with a slight stretching of George's birth year, for this to be your George GOSS. That might also mean that Jacob, Jr. and George were both sons of Jacob, Sr., the immigrant settler. Jacob, Sr. shows up again in 1830, with his wife, both 60-70, in their own h/hold. He died in 1835. But George does not show in 1830, at least not that I found.

I had previously concluded that Jacob and Henry were sons of Jacob, Sr., but may have to amend that to include George. County histories tell conflictiing stories--one says that Jacob, Sr. had 2 sons and one daughter, but another talks about the two daughters of Jacob GOSS, Barbara who md. Sebastian LEONARD, and another daughter who md. _____BECK. The story about 2 sons may be wrong.
