Children
One of the tenets of the Anabaptists is that children who have been baptized, in infancy, must be rebaptized before being admitted to any sect of the Anabaptists.(12) This perhaps explains an entry in the records of the Dutch Church, New York, for March 31, 1647, of the baptism of the four eldest children of Francis Weekes : Samuel, John, Joseph and Elizabeth/") On July 9, 1651, a party of the Gravesend settlers made their journey to the Church in the Fort fn New Amsterdam, bringing four infants to be " gedoopt." Two of them were children of Francis Weekes, Anna and Thomas, named for their sponsors, Thomas Baxter and Anna Stillwell. ... On Nov. 24, 1652, James Weekes, the fifth son was baptized, and as there is no record of the baptism of the youngest son, Daniel, he must have been born after the removal of the family from Gravesend. |
