Euclydus Longshore, b 1690 Philadelphia, PA, d. abt 1764 in Middletown, Bucks, PA. He was a cordwainer (shoemaker)by trade and follower of Quaker religion. He married Alice Stackhouse b 1699 Langhorne/Middletown, Bucks, PA (daughter of Thomas and Grace Stackhouse). Alice's father Thomas Stackhouse, (aka Thomas 9th) b 1661, Settle, N. Yorkshire, Eng., immigrated to America, d. 1744 Middletown, Bucks PA. m. Grace Heaton, b 1667, who had accompanied her parents to PA in 1681, sailing on ship "Welcome" with Euclydus Longshore's father and William Penn, founder of PA. Euclydus' father Robert Longshore, b abt 1640, Lancashire, England, was Deputy Surveyor for William Penn (under Thomas Holme, Surveyor General). Robert Longshore came in an advance party with William Markham, whom William Penn had appointed as deputy governor, in 1681 on the ship 'Welcome' to negotiate with and purchase land from the Indians, and to survey the land for William Penn's colony in Pennsylvania. Both families attended Friends Meetinghouses. |
