Court, Clark County, Ohio, June 1822
"James Mannix - On application to prove himself son and heir of Dennis Mannix does and have the same entered and certified so ~~ The said James Mannix introduces witnesses for the purpose aforesaid to wit: Mary Mannix who being duly sworn testifies and says that she is aged about seventy-two years and the widow of Dennis Mannix late of Greenbrier and State of Virginia who died in or about the year 1782 at the warm springs Augusta (now Bath) County (Va) intestate and leaving property, and also leaving children and heirs to wit: John, Rosanna, James and Jane that said John died in the year 1807 intestate unmarried and without issue in Monroe (late Greenbrier) County Virginia, that said Rosanna married twice and died leaving issue - that said Jane is now living married and has issue that his witness removed about fifteen years ago with her son James Manix from sd Greenbrier County to Springfield in (then Champaign) Clark County in the State of Ohio where they now reside and have resided ever since their removal from Greenbrier as afsd that James Manix now aged about 52 years.
Also Jane Gates who being duly sworn testifies and says that she is about sixty six years is the sister of sd Mary Manix Widow of Dennis Manix dec'd is acquainted with the fact above testified and sworn to by said Mary and knows the same to be true, that she is well acquainted with James Manix of said Clark County above mentioned and knows him to be the same James Manix above spoken of as the son of Dennis Manix dec'd.
The Court here being satisfied from the testimony of the Witnesses Mary Manix and Jane Gates that said James Manix is a son and one of the heirs of Dennis Manix dec'd, order the same to be entered of record which is done, and a certified copy thereof to be made out and delivered by the Clerk of this Court under his hand and official seal, to said James on demand."
