Hi Mary! Thanks for your reply. I do have FTM, but I have only had this computer (and FTM) for less than a month and am still trying to figure out how to do all the transferring of files that the program says it will do. Rather than try to send it to you through that format, therefore, I am just going to type what I have here and send it to you. My apologies, for I know that this makes more work for you, but I figure its better than my messing it up and losing the information altogether. My line is actually through the Norrises, although those children all retained the Lowe name. I've really not pursued the Norris line, although I really need to start. If you have anything, I would certainly be interested! Here's what I know about Andrew: Andrew R. Lowe
Amy Emerine Randolph
Their children:
As far as I can tell, the following are actually Norrises, although they all have the last name of Lowe. I have made this determination based solely on the date of death of Andrew and the birth dates of these children. I should note, however, that James S. and the following John E. H. are listed as Lowes in the 1860 census and living with David and Amy Norris, although all the other children are listed as Norrises. If you know the story on this one, I'd appreciate it! The children of David Norris and Amy (I think) John Elbert Harrison Lowe b. 21 Jun 1840 Bledsoe Co, TN d. 29 Mar 1925 Guthrie, OK m. 13 Jan 1863 Powersburg, KY to Louisa E.D. Jan 1845 KY d. m. to Will Hancock My connection to this family is through Adam. I do have more information on Adam's family (of course), as well as some on Monroe and Martha and Abb Lowe's families. Let me know if you need/want it. What is your connection to the family? I'm always interested in finding new cousins! -Chuck
This is from the "Mother's Application for Army Pension" which Amy filed following the death of James S. "On this 2 day of July, 1875, before me personally appeared Amy Lowe of the county and state aforesaid who being duly sworn according to law deposed and says David Norris to whom she had supposed herself legally married, entered the service of the United States on or about the 10 day of March 1865, calling her Amy Lowe and informing her that their marriage was null and void and that he did not intend to live with her anymore. She further states that said David Norris abandoned her before he entered the service and has not lived with her since. She further states that the letter the said David Norris wrote to her as above stated is lost or mislaid and cannot be found. She further states that David Norris abandoned her April the 9th 1861. -Amy Lowe Subscribed and sworn to before me by Amy Lowe this 26 day of July 1875. -Jabez Edwards, J.P." This is a second document from the same papers. "Evidence Why Record Proof of Marriage Cannot be Adduced" State of Kentucky County of Wayne, SS On this 15 day of July in the year one thousand eight hundred and sixty four personally appeared before me the subscriber, a Justice of the Peace, in a for said county and State: Amy Lowe a resident of the county of Wayne who is known to me as the widow of Andrew R. Lowe and Mother of James S. Lowe deceased who was a Private in company H commanded by Captain F. A. Alexander in the 1st regiment of Kentucky Cav Volunteers commanded by Colonel Frank Walford in the war of 1861-2 and who being by me first duly sworn, doth on her oath state, that evidence of public record of marriage of the above named Andrew R. Lowe with herself cannot be adduced for the reason that she was married in Bledsoe County, Tennessee. That said county is now infested with rebel guerillas and there is no mail communication, therefore it is impracticable for her to obtain record evidence of her marriage. That there are no eye witnesses to her marriage now surviving." Hope this helps, also. - Chuck
I noticed in your Bledsoe Co., TN query that you had information regarding Andrew R. Lowe. I am interested in this person, as he is the husband of my ancestor Amy Emerine Randolph. Andrew and Amy were married in Bledsoe County on Oct. 13, 1833. Andrew then died in Bledsoe county on March 29, 1838. Have you any other information which might be helpful? I would appreciate anything you would be willing to share. Thanks. I can be reached at <ctilman@ott.net> -Chuck Tilman
<<would think that David was a little older than we give him credit for. Amy was born in 1817, I doubt that she was 8 years older than him.>> Jim, If there was any "fudging," I think it was on Amy's part. It seems to still run in the family! Below is my census info. Amy 1850 33 yrs 1860 40 yrs. (seems to have lost 3 years) 1870 50 yrs. Her gravemarker reads, "born 21 Sep 1816..died 19 Apr 1899..was born Buncombe Co., N.C. David 1850 25 yrs 1860 35 yrs.
Subject: Randolph/Randalph Family Date: Sun, 24 Aug 1997 21:27:35 -0400 (EDT) From: Stopan@aol.com Hi, I am looking for any info on the RANDOLPH/RANDALPH family of Buncombe County. I have an AMY RANDOLPH who, according to her gravestone in Wayne Co., Ky., was born 21 Sep 1816 in Buncombe Co. I believe the immediate family left Buncombe by the 1820s for Tennessee. Is there still a Randolph family in Buncombe? If you have any info, please e-mail <Stopan@aol.com> or send to Gary E. Stoltman, 677Paxson Ave., Mercerville, NJ 08619
