"Ref." indicates a reference to a page in this or another church book. Information in square brackets [] was added by the editors, from other sources.
Dates prior to immigration to Canada may be given according to the Julian ("old world") calendar, which was 12 days behind the Gregorian (modern) calendar in the 1800's. It appears that 12 days were added to David's original baptism date by mistake, since he was baptized in Canada, not Russia.

'Village names were not included in the original census. They have been added here on the basis of information obtained from John Rempel and William Harms in Atlas of original Mennonite Village Homesteaders and some Burial Plots of the Mennonite West Reserve, (Altona Mb: 1990). Since the census could not always be completed in one village before the next one was started, some of the families included under a village heading may have lived elsewhere. Therefore the village names should be considered only as a guide to the place of residence. ...'

wife: Mary Fehr, born July 1854 (age 45) in Russia (both parents born in Russia), immigrated in 1888, mother of 1 child (1 living - appears to have been added later and might not be accurate)

Note that they are listed immediately after the family of David's brother Johann, who also immigrated in 1888, and whose birth years are also a few years too early.
