From NEHGS, Register, Volume 126, January 1972, pp. 4-5: "A Daniel Sterling was taxed in 1688 as a single person at Little Cambirdge (now Newton, Mass.) and died in 1690 in the disastrous expedition to Quebec, evidently unmarried, leaving a nuncupative will bequeating all to two friends (Register 31:304; Middlesex county Probate, No. 21196). He would probably be a son [of Daniel Sr. and Elizabeth Sawtell]. Perhaps another child was Sarah Sterling who mar. Ralph Farnum at Andover, Mass., 9 Oct. 1685 and d. 12 April 1732, although A. M. Sterling's Sterling genealogy says that she was a daughter of William and was b. 4 May 1669."
