That Jerusha (Smith) Doolittle and Amos Marsh were married or at least partnered is supported by the following:

1. Jonathan Blake's "History of the Town of Warwick, Massachusetts" describes the 1778 "spiritual wife-ism" controversy and includes that Amos Marsh ran off with Amzi Doolittle's wife (Jerusha Smith).

2. The tombstone of Jerusha, in Winchester, NH, reads "Jerusha A., wife of Amos Marsh, former wife of A. Doolittle."

There's a strong possibility that Amos and Jerusha escaped with Moses Hix and Lavina Doolittle (Jerusha's daughter) to Hoosick, NY. A Moses Hix and Amos Marsh are two lines away from each other in the 1790 census there. An Amos Marsh continues to be enumerated in Hoosick through 1820. Presumably, Amos Marsh died between 1820 and 1830 and Jerusha went to live elsewhere.

In the 1840 US Census, a female older than 90 is living with Amzi Doolittle, Jr. in Winchester, NH.

Jerusha Smith Doolittle Marsh dies in 1844, age 102. She is buried next to her son in Winchester, NH.
