There has no marriage record yet been found, and we do not know if they married before or after coming to Ohio. Elizabeth's gravestone states that she was the wife of A Snyder; Adam and Elizabeth's gravestones look similar, but the Find A Grave memorials do not state their physical proximity.

Evidence for children

The identities of the children are based on indirect evidence, as Adam died before 1850 and no family histories have been found. As Adam is the only Snyder in Bloom township pre-1840, we assume that Snyders living in Bloom in 1850 and 1860 are his children.

Census information

Here we summarize the information from Adam's 1820-40 census, with hypothesized names in brackets ("gone" means "missing from the family's subsequent censuses"):

  • F b. 1805-1810, gone by 1830 [Catherine, b. abt 1806, m. 1826]
  • M b. 1805-1810, gone bet 1830-1840
  • M b. 1805-1810, gone bet 1830-1840 [John, b. abt 1809, multiple marriages possible]
  • F b. 1810-1815, poss. gone by 1840
  • F b. 1810-1815 [Susannah, b. abt 1814, unm., with mother 1850]
  • F b. 1815-1820, poss. gone by 1840
  • F b. 1815-1820 [Mary, b. abt 1817, unm., with mother 1850]
  • F b. 1815-1820, poss. gone by 1840
  • M b. 1820-1825 [Adam, b. abt 1823, m. 1849]
  • F b. 1825-1830 [Ann, b. abt 1829, unm., with mother 1850]

Of the 5 females b. bet 1810 and 1820, 3 were with the family at the 1840 census. There is a male aged 15-20 in the 1840 census who does not have a match in the 1830 census (not listed above). For those without hypothesized names, a thorough assessment of Fairfield County Snyders will be needed.

Evidence for specific children

  • Catherine: living in Bloom 1850; Courtright family near to Adam Snyder in 1820 census; John and Adam Schneider gave bond on guardianship for Catherine and Catherine's youngest daughter in 1860.
  • John: living in Bloom in 1860 (but not 1840 or 1850); guardian to Catherine and Catherine's youngest daughter in 1860 (and so presumably a close relative); Adam shared bonds with him for those guardianships (and so presumably a close relative of both John and Catherine)
  • Susannah: Living in Bloom 1850 with mother Elizabeth
  • Mary: Living in Bloom 1850 with mother Elizabeth
  • Adam: Living in Bloom 1850; name consistent with being son of Adam Sr.; provided bond with John for guardianship of Catherine and Catherine's youngest daughter.
  • Ann: Living in Bloom 1850 with mother Elizabeth
