[add comment] [edit] Wikitree and Rodovid mergerThe Wikitree an Rodovid merger is proceding (I am told by the creator of the rodovid engine [1] ). This is being accomplished by copying over the wikitree database to rodovid, using the rodovid engine (which everyone agrees is great), and adopting the name and address of wikitree. The combined project at this point, it will be called wikitree, probably stands a good chance of becoming affiliated with wikimedia, and thus wikipedia, which will greatly increase the number of potential editors. WeRelate is said to have some high profile geneolgical backers, though their participation seems to neccesitate GEDCOM import, which rodovid has and the new wikitree will inherit. after the wikitree-rodovid merger is complete would be a perfect time to persue a merger with the new wikitree, and they deffinately seem to complement each other well. I would suggest that that merger takes place in much the same way, this database converted and transfered over to the new wikitree and all old addresses redirect to wikitree. Any special functionality of WeRelate could be implemented at that time. With 3 impressive projects merged together as one, the results are sure to be interesting. Just my thoughts, but here's hoping it happens! Mayhew18 [2] 8:06 EST June 4 2006
Note: Wikitree is back up, but as far as I am aware, there is no merge progressing between the two sites.--Bjwebb 13:28, 20 November 2006 (MST) BJWebb mentioned elsewhere that "Wikitree and Rodovid were planning a merger but it never worked out. As things stand it would be better to merge both of them into WeRelate instead." Why is that?--Dallan 00:41, 21 November 2006 (MST) |
