"Unofficial" Places

I just discovered this page today and I would like to talk about using "unofficial" places to create Place pages. By "unofficial" I mean a place that appears in your genealogy database, but is not readily identifiable as a current or historical place by means of a gazetteer, map, GNIS program, etc. You've looked everywhere online, but nothing can be found.

I believe this is part of the beauty of WeRelate and wikis. We tell about what we know on our end, which may or may not be correct, and another person comes along and adds what they know. History is unearthed. We give our reasons and sources and in the end we come up with something new, our best knowledge so far. The first line under "Features" on this Project page is "Collaborate with others to completely document the genealogical significance of a place".
