WeRelate:Suggestions/Recently added or selected pages

When a user is on a Person or Family page and clicks the "Add Parents and Siblings", "Add another spouse & children", etc links, there is a section on the Step 1. Enter what you know page that lists recently added or selected families. However, when you go to Add>Person or Family from the top menu, this section does not appear. --Jennifer (JBS66) 07:29, 4 December 2011 (EST)

This is easy to add; do you think it would be helpful? My thinking in excluding it was that when someone added a parent/spouse family to a specific individual, there was a good chance that they'd added the family already. But if they were adding the family from scratch, they probably wouldn't have added the family already. However, given the situations we've encountered recently with people adding the same family multiple times, perhaps listing recently-added pages for Add>Person/Family would be beneficial. I'll do it.--Dallan 22:52, 5 December 2011 (EST)
I have indavertently added the same family twice due to (apparent) WeRelate server outages. Sometime I click the Save button and nothing happens - basically it times out. Then I have no good way to know whether the action completed because the search for recently added Persons/Families lags the latest updates because apparently some of the search indices are computed in the background. Result being that since I cannot find the Family I conclude the update was lost and add it again. Then hopefully I later find the duplicate and remove it. This happens about once a week and I can find no pattern or "stuck conditions" so I have not bothered to report it since I cannot reproduce it. For some reason it seems to happen with Families more than with persons - probably because there are a lot more structure updates that need to happen for a Family.--Jhamstra 23:30, 5 December 2011 (EST)
That's interesting. I'll monitor adding families timing out so I can see if there's a pattern. The other change I hope to finish tomorrow should help your situation as well: You're right that the search indices are computed in the background - about once an hour is all. I'm going to try increasing the indexing frequency from once per hour to once every 15 minutes. And I'm going to make sure that your recent changes that match the search query are included in search results, even those made in the past 15 minutes.--Dallan 23:52, 5 December 2011 (EST)

This has been done. Archiving this suggestion.--DataAnalyst 21:39, 8 April 2017 (UTC)
