WeRelate:Suggestions/Exclude unused MySources in Gedcom upload

If a person/family is matched to an existing page during the gedcom upload process (and not updated), that information is ignored during the upload. But the system still creates MySource pages for sources used on those pages, even if the sources are not used anywhere else. I request that pages not be created for these unused sources.--Amelia 17:07, 20 June 2011 (EDT)

Currently, sources that aren't referenced by any people/families in the gedcom are excluded. I could also exclude sources that were referenced only by excluded people/families. That wouldn't be too difficult. Also excluding sources that were referenced only by people/families that were merged and that weren't included in the merged result is also do-able but a bit more difficult.--Dallan 23:00, 28 June 2011 (EDT)
I thought sources only used in excluded people were already excluded, I'd say that's something logical we should do. And I think the average user is going to think the difference between people you check as "excluded" and people you click as "match" (and do nothing else) is not sufficiently clear to justify the different treatment. I still don't understand the proposition. My current understanding is this: if a user adds to a person's page, they want to have proof they added, whatever the visual. So this could be the MySource.
It is only when adding information later on, by other users, that the initial MySource can be replaced by more adequate information.
