WeRelate:Suggestions/Allow user to delete isolated tree

Watchers

Suggestion

The ability to delete an entire tree was recently suspended. This new suggestion would allow a user to delete a tree ("My Tree") only if there is no impact to other pages, that is:

  • They are the only contributor to any of the Person, Family and MySource pages in the tree
  • No one else is watching any of the Person, Family or MySource pages in the tree
  • None of the Person or Family pages in the tree link to Person or Family pages contributed by or watched by anyone else

Deleting the tree would delete Person, Family and MySource pages in the tree (except for those that are also in another My Tree for the same user, and except for MySource pages linked to a page not being deleted). It would not delete pages in other namespaces, such as Images, Places, Sources or Transcripts.

Note that in practical terms, this would allow a user to delete a tree only if it is fairly limited in scope and/or relatively new. Trees that extend many generations and/or have been around for a while tend to be integrated with other pages, and thus would not be candidates for deleting.
