Person and Family page titles [19 September 2007]

Hi,

I'm Mary, one of the volunteer WeRelate administrators. I noticed that several of your pages had different people's names in the page titles than the person of interest on the page, or that the names were in a different order than WeRelate's "convention" of the husband's name first, then the wife's name (maiden surname) on Family pages. I made a few corrections, but in some cases, I'm unsure of the relationship among the various people on a page or pages.

I would encourage you to watch the "helicopter tour" on the WeRelate home page, then take the "Getting Started" tutorial. We realize that there is a learning curve to using this site effectively, but we want to help make it a good experience for everyone.

changes to page [21 September 2007]

Hi, I am an admin for WeRelate, its my job to check edits and uploads. I moved "Thomas" over to the given name field. The system assumes everything after the first space is the surname and puts it in a surname category. The categories are indexes that help others find your pages. So your page was in the "Thomas Knight" category and not the "Knight" category. I put Thomas in the given name field and included the "?" you had on the other page. This put it in the "Knight" category. Hope this is OK.

By the end of the year, we will have a match/merge function that will help you locate common ancestor pages. It will be important to have only the surname in the surname field. Generally our convention is to title the page with only the given/first name and the last/surname (i.e. John Kennedy) and put the other names and spelling on the person's page. Middle names go into the given name field. Directly under the name field is a link to add "alt names" this will create a new field(s) for as many other names and spellings as you like. Hope this helps, if you have any more questions please leave a message. And welcome to WeRelate, thanks for participating.--sq 12:52, 21 September 2007 (EDT)

Naming Pages [23 September 2007]

Hi Patricia, I'm a volunteer Administrator for WeRelate and moved your family page to one title "James Aldridge and Elizabeth Muncy (2)", instead of using the question marks. Perhaps, you just had not yet gotten around to making that change in the title. If you have any questions, please send me a message. Thanks for using WeRelate!--Dquass 23:03, 23 September 2007 (EDT)
