boettger.GED is being held for review [23 September 2007]

The pages from "boettger.GED" have not yet been generated because they appear to match pages from a GEDCOM you have previously imported to WeRelate. Please be patient while we take a look at your GEDCOM. If it turns out that the people in boettger.GED don't really overlap people you have imported previously, your pages will be generated right after the review, which should happen tomorrow (or Monday if tomorrow falls on a weekend).

If you have already imported a GEDCOM containing people in boettger.GED, you have two options:

  1. Open the tree containing the information from the previous GEDCOM using Family Tree Explorer and delete the tree, then create a new tree and re-import this GEDCOM, or
  2. If the two GEDCOMs don't overlap that much, leave a message for Npowell. We'll go ahead with the import, after which you'll want to merge the overlapping people by hand.

devries2.GED appears to overlap a previously-imported GEDCOM [2 October 2007]

The pages from this GEDCOM have not yet been generated because they appear to match pages from a GEDCOM you have previously imported to WeRelate.

If you have already imported a GEDCOM containing people in this GEDCOM and you want to replace that tree with this GEDCOM, you need to delete that tree first so duplicates aren't created when you import this GEDCOM. Go to the Family Tree page, scroll down to the bottom of the page, and click on the "delete" link next to that tree. Please be aware that any pages in that tree that are being watched by others won't get deleted. Once that tree is deleted you can create a new tree and re-upload this GEDCOM into it. (We're planning to make re-uploading GEDCOM files much simpler later this Fall.)

If you don't think you have already imported a GEDCOM containing people in this GEDCOM, or if the two GEDCOM's don't overlap that much, leave a message for Dallan or send an email to dallan@WeRelate.org and we'll go ahead with the import.

Hanaford in Lewis County

Welcome and thank you for adding the information about this township's changeable name to the site! I'm impressed to see all the GEDCOMS you've uploaded -- that's something I haven't managed to do very well yet. You will see that I did a "redirect" with Hanaford, just to make it conform to our naming conventions here at WeRelate -- smallest to largest, including country, in the page title, so that our search engine (and interested individuals) won't have to sort through all the possible variations. I copied your note and fixed the URL (there was a |1930 in it that didn't compute). Please let me or any other admin know if you have any questions. --Hh219 21:09, 4 October 2007 (EDT)

Place Names [12 October 2007]

You are certainly welcome to create new place pages for individual Chicago wards. WeRelate typically has geographical information down to either the town/city or township level, but not smaller units than that unless added by users. I try to ensure that to the great possible extent, places have a valid link to a page on WeRelate that has at least some useful descriptive and/or historical information. As you pointed out, place is important, but opinions vary as to how small a unit should be included in the Place namespace. Sometimes, users put a street address in the place namespace; clearly, this is too small, and I move numbers and streets to the description field all the time. It's valuable information for the person who posted it, and as a record for the individual family member, but it is not a useful Place search criterion for a cousin looking for that individual (though it would be found as a keyword search).

If you feel that Chicago wards are something that relatives might use as a search criterion, then you will want to create pages for those wards, but they are not automatically available in the WeRelate place database. Also, even in the description field, if someone did search "Ward 9" and "Chicago" as keywords, they would find your family members, with or without a specific place page for Ward 9. If you decide to create ward pages, the format would be a little bit different than what you used. For example, the place should probably be titled and written as "Ward 9, Chicago, Cook, Illinois, United States" to be consistent with our usual format.

Hope this helps!

Family [19 November 2010]

Hi Larris,

I found this website as I tried to google my family name of Stamborski. The information was helpful, I already had some of the information but not as much as there was on here. My great grandfather is Michael Stamborsky and my grandfather was John Albert Stamborski. I have been working on a geneology of my fathers side but its taking me a long time to obtain the information, at least 10 years. I do have some pictures of John as a child and he did have a adopted sister named Irene. I was wondering if you had any more information that you could share as I might have some to help you too.

Thank you,

Jill Stamborski--Bean 11:10, 19 November 2010 (EST)
