Welcome

Welcome to WeRelate, your virtual genealogical community. We're glad you have joined us. At WeRelate you can easily create ancestor web pages, connect with cousins and other genealogists, and find new information.

Video Tour

We strongly recommend that you spend a few minutes taking our video tour. It provides a brief overview of how to use the features of WeRelate. A little time spent here may save you time later. There are also in-depth text tutorials available from the Help button.

Create Webpages

The next thing to do is launch Family Tree Explorer, then select File in the Family Tree Explorer menu and give your family tree a name. You can either upload your GEDCOM or create person and family pages one at a time. To upload your GEDCOM, select File in the Family Tree Explorer menu and then click on Import and choose the GEDCOM file to import. The system will create an editable web page for each person and family in your GEDCOM. To create a page manually, select Add in the Family Tree Explorer menu and click on Add new person; enter the given (first name) and surname (last name), select Add, then fill in the blanks and save.

The Family Tree Explorer is a Flash application and will need to use some space in your computer to cache the files. That's computer talk for "If you store some ancestor page information on your computer, you will be able to view more pages faster. Otherwise, the system has to fetch each page every time you edit or look at it. This would make navigating your tree very slow.

Connect with other genealogists

You should always sign in when you are editing or adding pages. Use the signature button (second button from the right in the menu bar above the edit box) to sign your comments on discussion pages. That way others with similar interests can find you. If you click on the blue user name on any page, you will go to that person's home page. You can leave a message on his/her Discussion page. The Discussion page button is in the light green second level menu bar above.

Shared research pages

Shared research pages act like specialized message boards. Be careful to use only one name spelling and one location in each field; do not use abbreviations. Including postal codes and multiple spellings, names, or locations in these fields will cause your pages to be improperly indexed. It will make it harder for your cousins to find your pages and work with you. For more information see Shared research pages.

Error importing BRAUGHTdecPublic.ged

We had an error while attempting to import BRAUGHTdecPublic.ged. This is most likely our fault. We will review the error and should have your pages ready tomorrow (or Monday if tomorrow falls on a weekend). There is no need to re-import your GEDCOM file.

Samuel FRENCH related to Henry FRENCH?? [16 August 2007]

Hi,

I am watching your page on Samuel FRENCH because over the years I am becoming more convinced that Samuel and George Hedges FRENCH are related to my Henry FRENCH of Mercer County, KY. I am full of theories about Henry at the moment. With that in mind, I am wondering if George Hedges FRENCH and Mary FRENCH, who both were married in Adair County, KY could have been siblings? Mary and George BRUMMETT were married 22 Jul 1802. George and Polly Robbins were married 8 Jun 1809. Am I correct that this George is George Hedges French? Do you have any info on Mary FRENCH?

Thanks for any info. (This is the first time I have tried talking to anyone on werelate.org -- I'm not sure just how it's going to work.)--1dutchess 13:41, 16 August 2007 (EDT)

Riley history [11 September 2010]

I am so pleased to read the hard work you have put into documenting the Riley family history. My dad is Ronald Argus Riley. He is the first born son of Argus Charles Riley. My Dad never knew Argus. It is interesting for me to read their story. Thank you. Sincerely, Ronda Riley Christensen - West Des Moines, Iowa--Dubbiewdm 19:28, 11 September 2010 (EDT)

John Sutton Fleenor, b1859 [26 October 2012]

If you are interested in John's parents, I have some notes that might be helpful to you. It will take a bit of effort to assemble, so I will wait for your feedback before researching it more. This is not my direct line and my notes are sparse and all with loose ends, but I believe I have some good leads tied into a Sutton family in Rush County, Indiana. That's where my Fleenor ancestors settled for several years between their departure from Washington Co., VA and their arrival in Jefferson County, Iowa. My notes lead me to believe John's father is Wesley G. Fleenor and that he married either C. Sutton or (H)Ipatia Sutton in/from Rush County. If this is true, John had a brother, George F., born about 1864, who lived in Ottumwa, Iowa and was buried in Abingdon Cemetery in Abingdon, Jefferson County, Iowa where all my Fleenors were at one time. Wesley G. could be the same Wesley who was the son of Nicholas and Nancy Johnson Fleenor of WA. Co., VA.

Jonas Braucht line [22 February 2013]

I was trying to get the connection of the Braucht line and found it on this site. On the Commodore Jones Ward page I read your comment about how you were contacted by Ernie Ward, my father. I know he was mostly interested in the Ward line. I have two oval picture frames of my Dad's grandparents. One of them being Mary Ann Braucht and James willard Hubbard. Thanks for the connection.

Marshall Ray Hoefling's son [5 September 2013]

To whom it may concern, I seek to in form you of a possible error. The first name of Marshall R. Hoefling & Mayonne M. (Fogal) Hoefling-Thompson's child is actually: Arile Marcell Hoefling, not Arlene. I know this because I'm Arlie's eldest child of 3, & biological grandchild of Marshall R. & Mayonne M. Hoefling. I already made the change... Hope you don't mind. I'm curious about any info regarding Marshall's grandparents, or Hoefling family history would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. I hope this information is helpful & feel free to contact me. Sincerely, DHoefling--DHoefling 18:33, 5 September 2013 (EDT)

Hi, I have just started looking at this part of my family. It seems you have done tremendous work. What do you know about any of them personally? I see Adam Braught deserted his family......any other family stories like that? Do you know much about anyone's occupation? THanks. Kate

I am related through Louisa closson Loevinger, Daughter of Almer Closson and Estella Braught. She was my grandma.--MontanaKate 18:23, 9 July 2014 (UTC)

Woodland Cemetery - Cortes and Ida Braught [5 September 2021]

My husband and I walked at Woodland Cemetery today. Something compelled me to look at a bluebird nesting stand on the walk. On the way to view the stand, I noticed the names Ralph and Elizabeth Braught on a headstone. These are names I recognized from using your research to learn about the grandfather I never met named Argus Riley (Elizabeth’s brother). I researched again upon returning home to see if I remembered the names correctly which I did. The purpose for this note is to thank you for the well written history and to let you know that the gravestone of Cortes and Ida Braught has been overturned and will require maintenance. The headstone for Ralph and Elizabeth is in good repair.--RRCWDM 22:09, 5 September 2021 (UTC)
