BACKGROUND UNCERTAINTIES 1. Census records show Adam Stropes was born in Indiana, possibly Daviess County. Now deceased relatives are quoted as stating that Adam Stropes spent several years as a youth in the state of Arkansas, working on the farm of other Stropes relatives, more specifically an uncle.

2. Now deceased relatives are quoted as stating that Adam Stropes and Jennie Decker Stropes operated a riverboat ferry across the White River near the city of Shoals, in Martin County, Indiana, for a period of time.

3. There are two families with the surname Stropes in Greene County, Indiana. Apparently there is no relationship between the two. The Adam Stropes for which I seek information apparently arrived in Greene County after the previous Stropes family that settled in the area in and around Bloomfield, Greene County, Indiana.
