In search of Cate...

Twenty one years ago I was assigned a task by my grandmother and her older sister that began my wonderful journey into the world of genealogy. My assignment was simple, "use that computer thing of yours to find us some more information about our Grandmother Cate." Thus it all began...

The sisters did most of the really heavy lifting in their seventies and eighties by providing me with all of the names and dates they had available to them at the time. Their goal all along has been to leave behind a proper recording of the family histories before they are lost forever. The things they didn't know they found out by hopping into their car, taking a day trip to ask someone who did, and bringing the information back to be shared with anyone who would sit still and listen. My job has been to compile and record all of their findings. The sisters and one in-law are the only ones remaining from their generation. Because they have all reached their nineties their efforts have been restricted but that's not the end of our story.

Over the past couple of decades I have been blessed to dabble alongside of the sisters on a fairy consistent basis. Their efforts paired with my online research has allowed us to acquire a plethora of information and fill in most of our gaps with exception to the original assignment, Grandmother Cate. Though the finer details surrounding her life are still a mystery, Cate remains our inspiration to keep on researching, recording and documenting, no matter how aged we get. In addition to finishing a book about our family, I have a secret goal in mind, to document enough of the information we have gathered over the years in time for the sisters to be honored with an invitation to join DAR. Time is quickly running out and it is my hope that this forum will be able to assist me in completing our ultimate task and securing a patriot.
