Unfortunately what I don't know far outweighs what I do know

So many times I listened to the stories my grandmother and great aunts told! I used to think to myself, I should really start taking notes! Unfortunately, my thoughts never became actions. Now all the family Bibles that listed births, deaths, marriages, and dates have been lost to moves, or fires, or just plain lost!

Here are some things I know for certain, my maternal great grandfather's surname was Sullivan, I think his first name was George, but I am not certain. He married a Cherokee woman by the name of Sarah Melvina, but I'm not sure what her maiden name was. I do remember that when her and my great grandpa married her father said that the land that was to be her dowry would have to remain in her name. My great grandfather being a proud Irish man was offended by this unsure if her father thought he was unable to support her, or if he thought my great grandfather was motivated solely by the prospect of owning land, either way he was not going to debate the matter, so he loaded the wagon and instructed my great grandmother to tell her father goodbye and to keep his land.
I know that my family lived in Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and California. But I couldn't tell you which family, or what years. I know that my great grandparents had several children, but I only got to know my grandmother Mabel Violet Sullivan, and two of her sisters, Bessie and Lillie
