HI! I am a native born Michigander and still live within 5 miles from the house I grew up in. I started my family tree about 10 years ago trying to research any truth to my paternal side being Native American. They didn't leave much of a paper trail, that side of the family, so I got discouraged and let it all drop.
About 4 years ago my neighbor was doing her family tree and it got me interested again, so once more, I started researching, doing my maternal side this time which was a very good idea as I was able to go quite far, with help from a cousin who had actually started the tree when I was just a little one. She had pretty current info, and I was able to research historical info and found our ancestors back to Ireland.
I have since realized ancestors who worked in logging camps, ancestors who were inventors, but mostly just good old fashioned working folks who farmed for a living.
