The Howard Historian's mtDNA Project

The Howard mtDNA Project is for anyone who wishes to trace their female line. It works in much the same way that the DNA Project works, but is more difficult to trace because of lack of documentation on many female lines. It traces back from you to your mother, to her mother (the maternal grandmother), to the maternal great-grandmother, etc. For me that would be Fleming, Berdine, Howard, Hughes, Thomas, Breed, Harlan, Hollingsworth, Heald, and from here there seems to be a dispute about parentage.

Though I recommend testing with FTDNA, I have made a decision to allow anybody who has tested to join the Howard Historian mtDNA Project. My main purpose is not to sell kits, but to help find ancestors. The test results are not the same and may take a bit of figuring out, but we will do the best we can. The following link will take you to the Family Tree site for information and prices concerning the tests. [1],

We have only one match in the mtDNA Project, and it is not known how they match but interestingly both participants live in the same province in Canada.

Like the DNA project the participants are designated by haplogroups.
