Nichols is a village located in the Town of Nichols in Tioga County, New York, USA. The population was 574 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Binghamton Metropolitan Statistical Area.

(New York State divides its land into counties like most states of the United States do. However, New York uses the term 'Town' to define what other states would call 'Townships'. Hence, larger metropolitan areas that in other states would be referred to as a 'town' and 'not a township', must be referred to as 'Villages' or some other, larger definition. Because of this, when in genealogy, referring to TOWNS and VILLAGES with the same name, such as Nichols, one must define if the Town of Nichols, or the Village of Nichols is being discussed.)

The village was originally known as 'The Corners'. The village name was changed to 'Rushville' in about 1812 or 1813 (a name that is said to have been suggested by Dr. Barstow). Finally, in 1824 when the Town of Nichols was subdivided from the Town of Tioga, the name of the village was again changed to its present name of Nichols.

The Village of Nichols is on the north border of the Town of Nichols, County of Tioga and is in the 'southern tier' of districts in the state of New York. Nichols is halfway between Binghamton and Elmira.
