Template:Category

Template meant for use in several situations. One being the description field of a Person-page fact, associated with an event that establishes the person in a particular category. Adds the Person page to the indicated category and creates an active link to the category. The template requires a parameter indicating the name of the category. Optional second and third parameters can be used to specify the text presenting the active link and a sort sequence in the category respectively.

The description field string for Uriah Leach's Civil War enlistment is:

Enlistment, {{Category|1st Maine Heavy Artillery (Civil War)|18th Maine Volunteer Infantry|Leach, Uriah}}

The first parameter is the category. The second parameter is the string that presents the link to the category (different in this case, because the unit was initially recruited as the 18th Maine, but ultimately constituted as the 1st Maine Heavy Artillery). The last parameter provides the category sort criteria.
