Talk:Notebook:Edmondson Family of Cecil County Maryland

Watchers

Issues [16 March 2009]

There are three lines of Edmondsons that are said to have passed through CecciCounty:

  • The line of John, Robert, and William Edmondson who settled in Augusta County about 1740
  • The line of David Edmiston and wife Isabella who settled in Augusta County about 1740
  • The line of John "The Irish Hammer" Edmiston who settled in Old Chester in the early 1700's, and whose descendants moved to SC

There are several issues surrounding these three lines

1. What original records attest to the presence of members of the Edmondson family in Cecil County MD, as well as in Old Chester County?

2. While we have excellent evidence that the line of John, Robert and William came to Augusta from Cecil County. There's probably good evidence (though it hasn't been here examined) for The Irish Hammer line in Old Chester, but there seems to be no evidence at all to support the idea that David Edmiston and his family came through this area. Is there something in the way of original sources that specifcally points to him passing though either Ceil or Old Chester?

3. Given the similarity in given names between these two families, is there anything that suggests that they might be inter-related? Or are they indpendent lineages that just happen to have the same last name? (YDNA would help with that.) Q 19:56, 16 March 2009 (EDT)

Ephemeral Source [13 September 2009]

Hi Bill,

This is written under marriages. There is no source for the marriage data. Does ephemeral mean that the source was somewhere for a brief time and now gone? I read your page on ephemeral sources but still not clear as to your definition. I also checked Google for a definition and The Chicago Manual of Style and found nothing. --Beth 18:35, 13 September 2009 (EDT)
