Talk:Brick Walls

Topics

Featured? [26 November 2012]

My first impression: I have browsed several of the brick walls listed, and it does not look like a week is going to make much of a difference in most of them, that of course, being why they are brick walls. Chances of progress are probably pretty slim to start with, a weird coincidence of overlapping research areas or something, since one would expect the easy things have been done. If all effort was focused on one, and that happens to be nearly intractable, it is likely nothing will result. I would think that just having the whole list out there, to allow people to contribute anywhere they are able, might be the best approach. Then, you can feature any changes that get made, after something is found. It seems to me that this would give you the best possibility of being able to recognize some contribution. --Jrich 10:26, 23 November 2012 (EST)

You are correct that it is unlikely a week will dismantle the wall, but that doesn't preclude the value of fresh sets of eyes. Users can suggest research avenues on each brick wall's talk page.--Obstinatesnooper 10:40, 26 November 2012 (EST)

Add all pages from Brickwalls Category [26 November 2012]

Should we add all of the people from Category:Brick walls to our list of walls to potentially feature, or should we wait to see if someone interested in those people submits them? -- Jdfoote1 13:42, 26 November 2012 (EST)

Wait. Otherwise there will be too many people listed, and there is no guarantee that we'll be able to keep up with the additions. I added a link to the category page, so that if people are interested, they can read all of the pages over there.--Obstinatesnooper 14:29, 26 November 2012 (EST)

Tend to agree with Obstinatesnooper. Some of those pages (and pages of users) have been inactive for a long time. They probably wouldn't even notice if someone suggested future research directions. --GayelKnott 14:59, 26 November 2012 (EST)

New Featured Brick Wall [3 December 2012]

It's been just over a week - should we move to the next Brick Wall? -- Jdfoote1 13:15, 3 December 2012 (EST)

Keeping after feature [3 March 2013]

It makes more sense to add the previously featured brick wall to the bottom of the waiting list. Brick walls are more permanent in nature, and you may have someone who gets tired of adding a brick wall family/person to the list and gives up doing so entirely. It is better to ask that pages are removed from the waiting list after they have been solved. We can add a subheading for a list of solved brick walls, maybe, and they can describe which chink set the whole thing a'tumbling.--Obstinatesnooper 15:31, 3 March 2013 (EST)

I'm good for that. I think it's a good idea. -- Jdfoote1 16:07, 3 March 2013 (EST)

Current Brick Wall has been solved [19 March 2014]

The current (18 Mar 2014) featured brick wall, Person:William Smith (640), was edited in June 2012(!) to include his parents. This seems to resolve all significant questions for this person. Apparently he was not taken off the list. --Prcb 00:20, 19 March 2014 (UTC)
