Talk:Analysis. Genealogy of Robert Cowan (20)

Robert Shelby Cowan [2 November 2014]

This is great work! Several other researchers and I have been working on straightening this line out for a while and one of them has made great progress in locating Robert Cowan (20) in this country outside of just land deeds. I do want to point out though, that Robert Shelby Cowan is indeed the grandson and not great grandson of Robert Cowan (20). The father of Robert Shelby Cowan is George Rutledge Cowan the sixth son of Robert Cowan (20) and Nancy Ann Rutledge. I hope with the DNA involvement we can trace this lineage back a little further. And I am still hoping for the day we can positively identify military records for Robert so he can be properly recognized by the DAR.--Eacow82 03:45, 19 November 2013 (UTC)

I have his military records with the 7th Continental and the survey of his land from that service stating he served in the 7th Continental.--DAtkinson 04:06, 19 November 2013 (UTC)

Donna, Something that you might want to consider is adding those items to WeRelate as a Transcript page. Then referencing them in the Analysis and Person articles. Q 11:23, 19 November 2013 (UTC)
Eacow82, please feel free to add any of the products of your research as well. WeRelate is, after all, a collaborative effort, allowing many people to work together to add the fruits of their individual efforts into a single source repository. Q 11:29, 19 November 2013 (UTC)

Fully agree with the relationship of Robert Shelby Cowan to Robert Cowan. He is a grandson, not a great-grandson.

I am still working on this line and trying to find this Robert Cowan near or around Halifax County, North Carolina or Bertie County, North Carolina. Since he served in the 7th Continental Line from North Carolina, he had to reside in either of these counties (I have been told) in order to be in this unit. The closest person's name is Robert Coward WHO IS NOT this Robert Cowan. The Coward dna doesn't match and Robert Coward died in South Carolina. This Robert Cowan died in Tennessee later.

Another connection that needs work is the Robert Cowan who came with the groups from Ireland to Albemarle County, South Carolina. Some became Regulators. There is a Robert Cowan listed on one of the five ships and he is alone but have been unable to track him after his arrival in South Carolina.

Help is appreciated.
