Surname:Westfall

In one American family, Westphal was transformed to Westfall as described in this passage from a 1911 family history document:^{Mills, pgs 19-20}

".....My Uncle Cornelius mentioned above, who was born in the stockades of the fort, says our branch of the family, after the Rebellion in the old country, when they came away changed their names to Westfall, instead of Westphal. All the Westfalls in this country are from the same stock, while the latter importations from Westphalia are still Westphals."
