Source talk:Morrow DNA Project

I'm finding myself behind and confused. So I'm going to start posting Morrow DNA information as I get it here.

Results: Group I - Mysterious Tennessee descent [14 March 2009]

Kit 142292 (CE) matches 37/37 with descendants of Family:David Morrow and Margaret Kelso (1). But all David's sons are accounted for. The earliest of CE's ancestors is Samuel J. Morrow, born about 1826-1830, who married Sarah J. McKnight in 1852 in Madison Co, TN. Person:Samuel Morrow (15) has been added with his info.--Amelia 15:41, 14 March 2009 (EDT)

New Participant - gg grandson of Albert Morrow m. Rachel Price [10 April 2009]

Participant CF, kit 146452, returned his kit on 24 Feb 2009. He is descended from Albert Morrow m. Rachel Price, whose census records can be found here Ancestry and Google searches turn up nothing on Albert, who was born in 1849 in Rutherford County, NC and lived in Madison Co, NC. The Rutherford County Morrows otherwise match Group II. I put him here.--Amelia 16:05, 14 March 2009 (EDT)

The results came back, and this participant does not match, even remotely, the Rutherford County, NC Morrows.--Amelia 21:40, 10 April 2009 (EDT)

Greene County, IL Morrows are cross-matching [14 March 2009]

Participants CC (134191) and CD (140253) are descended from Greene County, IL Morrows. CC, descended from Jesse Morrow m. Elvira Bradshaw, should have matched one of the offshoots of Group II who was also descended from Jesse's alleged father William (1771-1848 Greene Co) son of John d. 1815 Rowan County. But he didn't. He matched Group IV, a descendant of a younger John b. 1798 and died in Greene Co in the 1860s. CD then confirmed that the original Group II result was not a fluke by matching his second cousin's results. So we now have descendants of two sons of William (1771-1848) who have results that don't even remotely match.--Amelia 16:15, 14 March 2009 (EDT)

New Participant: William m. Sarah Caldwell [15 April 2009]

We have a new participant from this line: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~amorrow/census/#Fam21 The participant's research indicates that William was born about 1790 in Tennessee. A suit in Barren County, KY on 22 Apr 1858 lists his heirs: John B. Morrow (executor for William Morrow deceased) , Jane (Morrow) Jenkins, Mary Ann(Morrow) Burks, Samuel C. Morrow, William D. Morrow, George I. Morrow, Thomas D. Morrow, and William M. Morgan, heir at law of Nancy D. (Morrow) Morgan (deceased) vs: James L. Morrow, Arthur C. Morrow, Elizabeth (Morrow) Payne (widow of William Payne), Alexander Burks, Abraham Jenkins. --Amelia 00:51, 16 April 2009 (EDT)

Results: Group II? Descendant of William Morrow m. Sarah Caldwell [21 June 2009]

Participant CG (149724), whom I haven't gotten around to adding on here yet, is descended from William Morrow born abt 1790 m. Sarah Caldwell and died in Barren Co, KY about 1836. His 12 marker results are back, and he matches Group II. But we've had that before and have it bust. 25 marker results should be back in about a month.--Amelia 00:11, 7 May 2009 (EDT)

Results came back in mid-May -- 25/25 match with the rest of Group II.--Amelia 00:36, 22 June 2009 (EDT)

New Participant - John of PA desc William Kinchen Morrow [5 September 2009]

Participant CH, kit number 153003, returned his kit this week. He is descended from William Kinchen Morrow, son of Samuel, son of William, who is the son of Thomas Morrow of Pendleton Dist., SC. Two of Thomas's sons have descendants in the project, and they have matched each other and Group III.--Amelia 00:34, 22 June 2009 (EDT)

First 12 markers came back, and they match Group III.--Amelia 00:23, 15 July 2009 (EDT)
All 37 are back. Perfect match.--Amelia 18:15, 5 September 2009 (EDT)

New Participant - desc. from Elijah Morrow, b. 1828, KY [17 August 2009]

Participant 154304 joined in early June. He is descended from Elijah Morrow, b. 1828, KY and Jacyntha Evelyn Raymond. Their son William Wallace was born in 1856 in Clay County, Missouri. The first 12 markers came back today, and there is no match.--Amelia 16:08, 17 August 2009 (EDT)

New Participant: Descended from James McKnight Morrow b. 1765 [5 September 2009]

A new participant has joined, kit number 162278. The line goes back to James McKnight Morrow m. Susannah Watson, through their son Drury. We expect the results to match the descendant of their Allen, which has already tested. There is a theory that James is the son of David Morrow and Martha Brashears, a line that matches the James McKnight line.--Amelia 17:31, 5 September 2009 (EDT)

Results: Group VI match from Ireland [5 September 2009]

I missed this one over the summer. Kit 158166, descended from Melville Taylor Morrow 1852 Erie Co Ohio, whose father was William Noah Morrow, b. 1812 County Duff, Ireland, matches a bunch of 18th century North Carolinans in Group VI.--Amelia 18:15, 5 September 2009 (EDT)

Results: Insights re Stephen son(?) of George McKnight Morrow [22 August 2010]

Results from kit number 178742 are of a descendant of George McKnight Morrow m. Elizabeth Powers. He matches 35/37 with the other George and Elizabeth descendant, who is a descendant of Stephen Morrow, whose parentage was uncertain. Kit 178742 matches 37/37 with others in Group VI, including descendants of William Noah Morrow of Ohio, Robert Morrow of Haywood Co, NC, and Robert M. Morrow of McMinn County, TN. Since Stephen married a Morrow, this may suggest that Stephen was a cousin of the children of George McKnight (and the proximity of his family to them may be explained by that relationship, his wife's, or a combination).--Amelia 18:36, 22 August 2010 (EDT)
