Film contents

All of these films appear to be available un-indexed online, accessible from the catalog page. They cannot be searched via the FamilySearch interface, and they lack copyable citation information provided by FamilySearch. This is why the resource has been labeled a 'finding aid'. Each card contains reference to a Census data collection sheet.

The descriptions of films on the catalog page show (American) Soundex values; conversion of names to Soundex codes is described at wikipedia:Soundex#American soundex. For instance, some of my family soundex values would be:

  • Ashcraft --> A261
  • Mills --> M420
  • Yockey --> Y220

One of the descriptions reads "Soundex: A235 Dan B. thru A352 Amos L."; this is the roll where "Ashcraft" (A261) should be found. Note on each card in the index, the soundex value appears along the top margin (in most cases). There are also occasional index cards such as image 1622 of this file which is labeled with "P" and indicates the beginning of P-given names for surname soundex A260. Likewise, marker cards appear at Soundex boundaries, such as image 1701 which begins listing for soundex A261.
