Preface

From:Source:Campbell, 1925 With some reordering for clarity:

I, being the third son of John Campbell, last Laird of Drumaboden...am the only one left of the family that has the legends and traditions that are handed down from father to son according to the old country rule of Primogeniture....My oldest brother, Joseph Lytle, would have been the refular line of succesion but unfortunately he list his life in the Confederate Army at the battle of Chicamauga, September 19, 1863.

My next brother, Wm. Park, did not have much taste in that direction, so it fell to my lot... to be the historian of the family.

Fortunately for me, my father lived until I was twenty-five years of age---so that he related to me over and over again all the legends and traditions of the family-- as they were handed down to him.
