Projects

The Indiana Genealogical Society has several projects and welcomes your participation in them:

  • "...Always A Hoosier" A project to record information on ancestors who were buried in Indiana (they did not have to be living in Indiana at the time of their death). This project is ongoing and is a companion to "Once A Hoosier..."
  • Indiana Marriage Indexing Project A joint project of the Indiana Genealogical Society and the Genealogical Society of Utah. The goal is to create an Indiana marriage index that begins with each county's earliest surviving records and goes up to 1957. When finished, the index will be put online as a free searchable database.
  • "Once A Hoosier…" A project to record information on ancestors who were in Indiana for some part of their lives but who died in other states. The project is ongoing and submissions for Volume III are now being accepted. Volumes I and II are available for purchase on the Shop page.
  • Records Preservation Project A project to preserve and digitize probate records for Hendricks County, Indiana dating from 1824 to the early 1900's. Additional volunteers and donations are welcome. [An Index to digitized records can be found on the Hendricks County, Indiana GenWeb page. Most are free to non-members]

Research

One of the benefits of membership in the Indiana Genealogical Society is access to our collection of searchable databases. Premium databases are accessible only to IGS members - enter your login information in the Members Login Area below. There are also several free databases, which do not require membership. We have 1,190 databases [as of 1 Jan 2014], representing all 92 Indiana counties, and we add more all the time. Some of the databases contain PDF files, which require the (free) Adobe Acrobat Reader in order to open them. [See a List of Databases. ]
