Society Meeting & Museum Information

The society meets at 1 p.m. on the last Monday of the month in our museum, 106 W. Davis St., Stockton. Our museum once was located in the old 1888 Cedar County Jail which was just west of the current courthouse and was demolished in 2007. Our current museum is one block north of the square and one block west on Davis St., across the street from the telephone company. The public is invited to attend all meetings and tour the museum for free.

Our museum currently is open from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. the first and third Saturday of the month, during monthly meetings, and by appointment. Those dates are subject to change as we have staff available, so check for current updates. The museum is closed from November through March, except by appointment or during our meetings. Group tours also are available by appointment.

We have a research library in our museum housing many local research publications, family genealogy collections, maps, funeral cards and other historical materials and is open to the public. The society has been fortunate to have received the rights to publish and hold the copyright to many of our publications.

Research also may be done through the Cedar County library system at Stockton and El Dorado Springs, the recorder’s office at the Cedar County Courthouse, the Missouri State Archives and many online genealogical websites.

Membership in the society for one person per year is $15, family membership is $25 and a life membership is $80. If you join the society in April, your membership is valid until July 1 of the following year. A quarterly society newsletter will be included with your membership.

The society’s function is to preserve the history of Cedar County by collecting artifacts and materials for accessibility and education of all who express interest. The society is not tax funded. It is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization and operates exclusively by donations and fundraisers.
