Willingdon is an ancient ecclesiastical parish stretching across the entire north edge of the town of Eastbourne, continuing south to reach the English Channel at Langney Point. Willingdon was the base for the local village of the same name in George Orwell's Animal Farm. Willingdon is in fact two villages Upper Willingdon and Lower Willingdon.

At the end of the 20th century Willingdon joined with its western neighbour, Jevington, to make a single civil parish of over 7,000 people.
