Research Tips

Parish records for Tlaltenango exist back to approximate 1632 and are in fairly good condition and, to some extent, indexed in IGI. Many of the early families intermarried and thus there is valuable information in the marriage dispensations of the Sagrada Mitra in Guadalajara. Luz Montejano-Hilton has published a book with a name index of such dispensations.

Transcriptions of the earliest marriage records (which are unindexed in IGI) as well as the earliest census of the town from 1650 can be found in Arturo Ramos' book Familias Antiguas de Tlaltenango.
