Tacolneston is a village and civil parish in Norfolk, England. Since 1974 it has been part of the South Norfolk District with a population of around 700, but measured at the 2011 UK census as 825. Its name occurs in the Domesday Book of 1086 as Tacoluestuna and is theorized to come from Anglo-Saxon 'Tātwulfes tūn', meaning "Tātwulf's farmstead", via an old handwriting misread of 'n' for 'u'.

A Vision of Britain through Time provides the following description of Tacolneston from John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales of 1871-72:

"TACOLNESTON, or Tacolston, a parish, with a village, in Depwade [registration] district, Norfolk; 2¼ miles WNW of Forncett [railway] station, and 4½ SSE of Wymondham. It has a post-office under Wymondham. Acres: 1,580. Real property: £3,156. Population: 452. Houses: 100. The property is divided among a few. [Tacolneston] Hall is the seat of F. G. Boileau, Esq. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Norwich. Value: £498. Patron: J.Warren, Esq. The church is good; and there are a national school, and charities £20."
