Research Tips

When my family moved to the Frost Ranch in 1948, the only item left at Smada was a potato grading structure and a wooden sign in faded letters along the railroad that ran from Sugarland to Galveston. I was told that the original name derived from the Adams Plantation (spelled backwards)on which this community was located. Over the years the building was used for a hay barn and other ranching uses. It slowly fell into dis-repair and was torn down sometimes in the 1980's. When the railroad was removed from service- 2 trains a day- the location disappeared. With all the building in the area, only a few people could even tell you where the original location was.
