Rush Township, Centre County's largest township, was formed in April 1815, and named for Dr. Benjamin Rush of Philadelphia, a famous physician of Revolutionary War days and a signer of the Declaration of Independence. The Township lies entirely in the Allegheny Mountains. Its major settlement is Philipsburg Borough at the western border, adjoining Clearfield County.
