the following text is based on an article in Wikipedia

Exelby Leeming and Londonderry, formerly Exelby Leeming and Newton (#10 on map) , is a civil parish in the Hambleton District of North Yorkshire, England. It contains three villages – Exelby, Leeming and Londonderry – and RAF Leeming Royal Air Force station. The parish was renamed in 2018 because it was felt that Newton was not recognised while Londonderry was, being a hamlet marked on maps. The population of the civil parish as of the UK census 2011 was 2,788.

Prior to the nationwide municipal reorganization of 1974, the civil parish of Exelby, Leeming and Newton was part of Bedale Rural District. Historically, the three villages were located in the ecclesiastical parish of Burneston (#4) in the wapentake of Halikeld.

NOTE: Because of the nature of its database, WeRelate has to omit commas from placenames of townships and civil parishes despite the confusion this may cause.
