Moray District, or simply, Moray, was one of the five districts of the Grampian Region which existed between 1975 and 1996. In 1996 Grampian was disbanded and separated into three "council areas":

The council area covers most of the historic County of Moray (or Morayshire), along with most of historic Banffshire. Part of Morayshire is now in Highland Council Area and part of Banffshire is now located in Aberdeenshire Council Area.
