Mercy Cemetery is located in the Higginsonville neighborhood, at the corner of Boundary and Lafayette Streets, just west of Beaufort National Cemetery in Beaufort, SC.

The Higgonsville neighborhood is named after Thomas Wentworth Higginson, civil war soldier and commander of the first South Carolina African American Infantry.

In 2010, the City of Beaufort's clean up initiative uncovered a historic black cemetery in the back of the property dating to right after the civil war. It is thought to contain many of Beaufort's civil war soldiers.
