Mendota is a city in Dakota County, Minnesota, United States. It was the site of an outpost for the American Fur Company that was established in 1825. One of the post’s leaders, Henry Hastings Sibley, was elected the first Governor of Minnesota. His home in Mendota still stands today along with several other historic structures managed by the Minnesota Historical Society. The name Mendota is derived from the Dakota language, meaning "mouth or junction of one river with another. The population was 198 at the 2010 census.
